I Blame the Rain.

I woke up late this morning with a sore throat and this outside:

Some days are just meant for putting on your fuzziest socks, eating soup, and pirating Avatar.

Drawl-lingz.

So I kept up my promise to myself that I would practice drawing.  This week I drew the interior of rooms to get a better sense of spacial depth perception and accurate angles.

According to Rapid Viz (an instruction manual on quick sketching skills and techniques) to get better at drawing, it is helpful to draw your scene, and then draw it again in 5 minutes and then once more in 1 minute.  Hence the three drawings of the same thing in my sketches.
(top half= 15 minute drawing. bottom left =5 minutes. bottom right =1 minute).

Still working and a little reluctant to even post these...but here's this week's progress...

Fashion Week Wrap Up

As the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week comes to an end, let's recap on this year's most outrageously fun looks!

Step aside, Baby Spice.  Make way, Willow Smith. Watch out, Gaga.
This wild do by Jeremy Scott is a real head turner.

This one's for you Andre:
Niki Minaj is 'spotted' (literally) wearing a peacock infused wig.

Fun peacock fact: A group of peacocks is refereed to as a party.

Bright is the new BlACK!
Get out of those fall browns and winter greys! Spring is all about revamping your wardrobe with eye catching color!

Hot Pink Shift by Jenni Kayne
Neon Dress and Jacket by Libertine Johnson Hartig
Silk frock and beaded teal cardigan by Kate Spade

Fingernail Polish Redefined:
This innovative fashion statement that redefines nail polish was created by founder of Butter LONDON and pioneer of Fall 2009's matte nail polish epiphany at Alexander Wang, Nonie Creme.

Finally, Betsy Johnson encapsulates her eccentric and energetic styles and leaves her signature on the runway by cartwheeling down the catwalk!

A Little Comic Relief

For my PRODUCTION AND DESIGN class, we were encouraged to draw a 5 panel comic depicting someone teaching someone(s) else how to to something….I came up with this:

The dialogue is difficult to read so I have translated below.

Panel #1

Engraved on sign: "End of the Road Retirement Home"

Panel #2

Banner reads, "Welcome Cali Swag District"

Mr. Cali Swag: "Today Ima be teaching yaw howta Dougie."

Panel #3

Vern: “Did he say ‘horse and buggy?”

Glenda: “I kew it was muggy. My knee’s been achin’.”

Louise: “Who’s he calling chubby?”

Walter: “I love my snuggie.”

Panel #4

Mr. Cali Swag singing and dancing: “Put your arms out front, lean side to side."

Panel #5

...Confused grand-people.

As my new challenge to learn how to draw endures, I have sought out this magnificent music video for inspiration and encouragement. Take a look, have a listen:

One Great Weekend!

Friday afternoon:

Saw The Roommate at our local Kerasotes Theater with Cassi and Alex.

Not quite worth TEN dollars, but nonetheless reassured me that my current living situation could be way worse.
After all, to my knowledge Morgan has never put a kitten in a washing machine or held my friends hostage.

Friday night:

As a fervent fan of  Cash Cab, I could not pass up the opportunity to be in the audience of the show's host, Ben Bailey, stand up comedy debut here in Bloomington at The Comedy Attic.
If you ever get the chance to see Mr.Ben Bailey, jump on it!

Saturday morning:

I built a freakin' house!

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is currently constructing homes for three local families strictly by the manpower of volunteers.

Although my snot was pure black from dust and my fingers were blistered from working with power tools all day, it is a gratifying feeling to know we are building blocks for families in need.  Plus, we had homemade lasagna for lunch :)

Saturday night:

Celebrated Igor's 21st Birthday!

Sunday morning:

Did a Strength Core class at the SRSC
We did a bodybar circuit workout which is a different (and in my humble opinion better) way to lift weights. The bar more evenly distributes weight to work more muscles simultaneously as well as improve balance.

Sunday night:

The Commercial Bowl!
If you’re anything like me during the Super Bowl, you save your bathroom breaks for game time and hustle back for the commercials. Here is my top pick:

Nothing tugs harder at my heart strings than a baby and his kitten.

Finally, I also Skyped with Andre and guess what?! He has a blog! Check it out.

Thursday, February 3, 2011

I was brought back to my childhood this week:

The Magic School Bus was on at the gym!

I never realized how diverse Mrs. Frizzle's class is... I mean really they've got it all-- Arnold the Jew, Carlos the Mexican, Keesha the black girl, Wanda Li the Asian, Phoebe the albino, and Janet the bitch.

Our dorm had a fire drill.
In all the chaos, my floor mate, Brooke, grabbed all her jewelry before dashing out of the building (lol) and I scooted out in my Birks.  We were both chastised outside by our neighbors.

I had a substitute teacher!
So you know Professor Narnia? Well she had to go to England this week, so a substitute professor was there to press 'play' on the DVD player so we could watch The Crucible.
(He called his job a "supporting role" and laughed at his own joke for about 3 minutes.)

But before turning the class over to the projection screen, he gave a little background information about what we were about to watch:

"The Salem Witch Trials occurred in 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts which is a province of the Massachusetts Bay which is on the eastern most colony of the time.  The population was mostly Puritan which is basically a theocratic society which is why they had a difficult time when supposed spirits inhibited their community..."

I found this extremely hilarious because he kept (unintentionally) saying WITCHES.

Finally, we got a SNOW DAY!
Well... kind of.  See, we got this e-mail:
In my initial excitement I thought it meant we didn't have classes until 2:30 THE NEXT DAY (Wednesday).  So I sent out a mass text saying "NO SKOOL 2MORROW!!"

I didn't realize my mistake till I started getting angry calls asking me where I got that information.
Oops...
