Blog Ketchup

Since I've been so consumed by a full schedule of not attending class or having a job and oodles of time on my hands, I haven't had the desire to blog (for some reason I blog most frequently in chaotic, stressful points).  Anywho, here's a recap of highlighted outings and occurrences in the past few weeks to catch up:

I went plant shopping with mi Madre:

And saw this strange siamese flower
Then we went to Iowa to see Meg.  We mostly sat outside in the cold rain, but we stopped at the site of the History Channel series of American Pickers- Antique Archaeology.

This weekend Johnny and I went to visit Soma at University of Chicago.
Childhood best friends all grown up. Bittersweet.

I kicked off my 20th birthday celebration with a sprinkle milkshake!

I also saw Bridesmaids with Andre, Cassi, and Natalie
Personally I would rate this movie a solid 7.  It's a raunchy chick flick that is accurately described as a girl version of "The Hangover"

The trailer gives away all the funny parts so if you just watched it, don't bother watching the movie.

So if you haven't heard, Morgan has these little toads in our room (cleverly named Toad and Toadette...).  If you don't know anything about Yellow-Bellied Toads, they having a mating call that sounds exactly like "a distant dog bark" (as described by Wikipedia).  This may be more than you want to know but, in the act of mating the male will grab hold of the female like so:
Apparently Toad thinks it's mating season all year around because he constantly will trap Toadette and force her into the act.  It makes me feel really uncomfortable and as much as I should allow nature to take it's corse, there is nothing natural about holding two toads captive in a confined desk aquarium and forcing them to have intimate relations. So I would often intervene.

So Friday night Toadette took a final courageous leap (lol) of faith and climbed out of the aquarium.  The story ends with Morgan accidentally stepping on Toadettes dried up, crusty body in the middle of our floor.
After my initial reaction of almost vomiting, I applauded Toadette's brave escape tactics.

But in other news, I tried out a new breakfast place.
Sarah and I went on a long run yesterday and ended at The Green Bean.  We sat outside on a porch that was lined with mismatched coffee cups. Upstairs the renovated house that is now a cafe, is an antique shop with vintage (some over 100 years old) dresses and hats. I wish I would have brought my camera on this run to show us in all the hats, but this is  picture from their website of one of the hat rooms.

I also went to "Chocolate Around the World" hosted by Foster Residence Hall. I'd have to say, kudos to the RAs for finally thinking of an event that actually drew a crowd.
We made chocolate covered strawberries and marshmallows and tasted chocolate from Switzerland, German, Tanzania, Tokyo, and Belgium. Nom, nom, nom.

One upside of the dorms

As I get ready to say goodbye (Sayonara, Bon Voyage, Adios, Ariva Dirche, Ciao, Auf Wiedersehen) to the dorms, I would like to commemorate and credit my black friends next door for influencing my ever-expanding ebonic lexicon. Here are a few terms I have come to learn from my converse with Brionna and Threasa:

1.) Home trainin [hohm-trey-nin’] – showing respect to someone else's personal space or property.
                         Synonyms: manners, etiquette, class.
Ex: "I can’t believe she ate my last Oreo. Where’s her home training?"

2.)Ratchet- all bad, looking/acting/doing dirty things
Ex: "I woke up late for class and had to go looking all ratchet."

3.) Getting chose- gaining attention, often times leading to being asked on a date.
Ex: "Dang girlfriend, you're looking good tonight. You're totally                            gun get chose."

4.) Triffling- unexcused, disgusting, things that should not be done
Ex: "I stalked her Facebook and saw she wore glasses to prom.                             That girl is triffling."

5.) The business-[biz-nis], (sometimes also pronounced [biz-nass] when emphasizing excitement)- a way to refer to something that has got it going on
Synonyms: awesome, great, high quality
Ex: "That fried chicken with barbecue sauce was the business."

6.) Out the house- a status that should or should not be obtained depending on appearance
Ex: "He's average looking. But, you can definitely take him out the house."

7.) Jank- broken, ruined, used, substandard quality, sketchy, questionable
Ex: "I got soaked walking to class because of this jank umbrella."

8.)Peac(-ing, -ed out)-  the act of leaving, usually abruptly or unannounced
Ex: "We're probably peacing pretty soon. This party is lame."

9.) Crawling- unsanitary, filthy, dirty, gross
Ex: "I can't believe she leaves her toothpaste in here without                             the cap on. This bathroom is crawling."

Also, they sleep in these pretty silk head wraps because cotton pillowcases are bad for their weaves.  These cool looking "wrap caps" to keep their hurr looking fresh.

This Weekend I...

Got an Easter basket in the mail from my mama!
Jelly Belly jelly beans, cheddar bunny crackers, marshmallow Peeps, Captiva cookies, Swedish cinnamon thins, tie dye socks, a wind up turtle and canned salmon!

Then Friday night I was awakened from a very deep sleep by the girls on my floor having a freakout party because of the weather.  So we all sat in the hallway until the tornado sirens went off.  Michelle cried. Lindsay tweeted her every move.
Needless to say nothing happened.  Tornado warnings are kind of like the boy who cried wolf.

Then Saturday I went to the Farmers Market

And the antique store across the street

I bought this vintage photo album for $3 :)

Then I got a free henna tattoo at Northwest Fest
